Laura Helen Pettry

Laura Helen Pettry, 89 of Glen Daniel was born March 27, 1933, and passed away peacefully in her home with the care of family on April 14, 2022.

Helen was very fond of feeding birds and watching them from her front porch. She enjoyed being surrounded by her plants and flowers and had a green thumb. She had a love of animals and was a born again Christian.

In her younger years, she worked as a nurse aide at Beckley Hospital, and was a care giver by nature. Always thought fondly of as a beautiful woman, she was a protective mother of her 5 children, Gail, Debbie, Terry, Jimbo and Helen Sue, who were the focus of her life. She got great joy from her grandchildren and was a very devoted and fun grandmother.

She was known for her delicious country cooking and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Helen had a fun social life with her dear friends Terry Allen and Marie Barker and they enjoyed shopping, yard sales, bingo and a good buffet.

Her daughter, Debbie, was her live-in caregiver providing her with loving and excellent care. Her son, Jimbo, also cared for his mother and they had a wonderful loving life-long relationship and friendship.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver, of 68 years. She had missed him so very much since his passing and her family takes comfort in knowing of their beautiful reunion in Heaven.

Those left to carry her precious memory include her brother, Dean Acord (Prsicilla), her 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Due to Helen’s personal wishes, there will be no services. The family wants to remember her how happy and radiant she was at her recent 89th Birthday Dinner. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Southern WV and for the special visitors and prayers received in her final days.
